This is a cost-saving measure for an ISP, as well as a huge boost for a customer. I don't know for sure what Origin is doing, but it's fairly likely to be automatic.Īnother thing to note is that if you more closely inspect your Steam downloads, you'll potentially find your ISP is serving the download via a caching server. However, clients sometimes have some way of preferring a region - Steam lets you, for instance, to your benefit (pick a nearby city) or detriment (pick something far away). This is for better performance closer = better, generally. That said, these things usually do some kind of load balancing + GeoIP pairing logic, where they try to pair your request off with an optimal "origin" server (not the same thing as EA Origin) that's nearby. And most likely, the game files come in via Akamai's CDN (there are other possible CDN providers likely in use - Steam uses a half dozen or so). Whatever, I at least tried.įor starters, Origin downloads game files from CDNs, not straight off EA servers (this isn't the early '90s). Maybe you'll find something below helpful, if not educational, or it's all a waste of your time. Still, since I find this shit interesting, I dug more into it. And frankly, you are coming off like you're seeking confirmation bias, if you are being this dismissive of other honest experiences or opinions. While it can serve as a bit of a sanity-check, and it's reassuring to see others experiencing the same problem, your claims are mostly still based on emotion. Hey don't take it from me just do a few Google searched, make a petition, maybe they will one day listen but I don't have my hopes up. go Check WallStreetBeats and see what happens when people get fed up. Your only solution is to pay with your pocket but we as a collective whole don't do that as we are hamstrung to use them. If Steam,, Uplay all download at your top internet speeds there is no reason EA wants to do it other than increasing shareholder profits and screwing us. Honestly, view it as what EA deems important: NO ONE or barely anyone gets anything higher than 8-10MB/Sec We all get a 2-5mb download, everyone googles and asks the same thing. EA after 20+ years you are still failing.
