The problem is, you're thinking of the card in a vacuum versus those cards. Shadow of doubt also combo's with path to exile to make it the best removal spell for W since they can't fetch for a basic land. This card has so many applications it isn't even funny. Enchantress really needs that confinement from a sterling grove activation? I guess they don't get it due to shadow of doubt. Oh I'll blow up your land only to have you loam it back into your hand then put it into play. Lets see what sinkhole does against loam decks. Intuition getting blown out by shadow of doubt seems pretty amazing since you don't get your life from the loam engine online. So you have your knight of the reliquary toolbox that sinkhole does NOTHING against? Not anymore since you sacked that land to activate knight I guess I'll cast shadow of doubt, effectively stifling your knight activation and drawing a card. So you're casting a doomsday huh? I'll shadow of doubt in response, GG's because you still lose half your life from the card. Sinkhole does nothing against infernal tutor plus LED this just blows it out of the water. You don't need to rely on the opponent having a fetch. Here's some more cards it is amazing against and see regular play: Okay, so I initially said few cards that it is good against. Sinkhole only hits lands, this can hit all manner of cards from enlightened tutor to goblin matron to survival of the fittest and it is never as dead as sinkhole is since it cantrips. Why is it better? Well it is quite simple. What I propose to do with the card is replace sinkhole with shadow of doubt. I just discovered this card from ravnica and thought "Gee, this is like stifle but it is a 0 for 1 since you cantrip off of it in response to a fetchland activation but for 2 mana." But it is a blue black hybrid card so a mono black deck could reasonably run it in conjunction with dark ritual to have it active turn 1 and negate the card disadvantage of dark ritual. Players can't search libraries this turn.
